    A Spinal is the best way to go, in my opinion. I've had almost everything in the way of Anesthesia. I despise General Except for TIVA (Total IntraVenous Anesthesia). GA, except for TIVA uses too many chemicals. Level 4 and you in an induced coma and are next to dead, being kept alive by a ventilator. For some surgeries such as Open Heart, GA Level 4 is unavoidable. Stay healthy and hopefully you won't need surgery.

    FA as a backstop is a recipe for vessel puncture, I would go more lateral then flatten out once you're in the correct plane

    Can you elaborate at 3:47 “once a decision is made to advance the catheter the catheter should never be withdrawn given the risk of sheering”? I know someone who had this sheered during removal of the needle. How did this happen?

    • @PracticalAnesthesiaTechniques
      @PracticalAnesthesiaTechniques 6 місяців тому

      Theoretically, pulling a catheter back with the needle inserted could cause the needle tip to shear the catheter. Sheering during needle removal is more challenging to explain.

    I had 2 c-sections w/a spinal anesthesia and hated it. I had a THR 4 yrs. ago when the anesthesiologist came into my room to tell me he prefered to do a spinal on these types of hip surgeries I was shocked as in the classes you go to before the surgery never mention a spinal at all. I simply refused to have one. I could tell the DR was NOT happy at all. He acted like I was making a big mistake. I had General Anesthesia and was just fine. I'm facing knee surgery soon as I know it will be the same attitude as before. I won't have a spinal and that is that!

      Im not a doctor or anesthesiologist, but someone who has had two c-sections without a TAP block, and one with a TAP block. I can say, yes I was still achy after the TAP block, but not NEARLY as much as without. It was night and day for me. Without it, I could barely sit up in bed without crying, but with the TAP block, I was up and walking around the same day and barely needed pain meds. It doesn't 100% take away the pain, but it's a drastic reduction for sure
